Building product at TechWolf: Mathieu’s Journey

Meet Mathieu, one of our Product Managers at TechWolf. His path here wasn’t exactly linear - no prior HR tech background, plenty of FinTech experience, and one very fateful breakfast that turned into a career pivot.

☕ A breakfast that changed everything

Mathieu first heard about TechWolf through Mikaël, one of TechWolf’s Founders. He’d been following the company’s journey from the sidelines when a casual breakfast turned into something more: “We’re looking for a Product Manager… are you in?”

Soon after, he was meeting the Product team and our CTO and Founder, Jeroen - and before he knew it, he was in. “Back then, Product at TechWolf looked very different. It was essentially a Product Manager working directly with the CTO, separate from Engineering. Today, it’s a whole different story: a mature product organization with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, Engineering teams and clear end-to-end outcomes.”

The space itself was new to him too: Who are our buyers? What’s the business case? But that curiosity is what drew him in: HR leaders as strategic partners, at the heart of enterprise workforce transformation. Add in the energy of a dynamic, ambitious team and the open, learning-oriented culture fostered by the Founders - and the decision clicked.

🔌 Today: Driving integrations forward

Fast forward to today, Mathieu leads Product for our Integrations team - something he actually pitched to our CPO, Yasamin.

For TechWolf to succeed, we need to be present where our customers already work - in systems like Workday, Visier, ServiceNow and SAP. That’s where the potential lies.

His role is all about strategy with our partners: understanding their platforms, finding the most complementary ways to embed TechWolf, and translating that into clear product goals. It means conversations with partners’ fellow Product Managers, setting KPIs and user stories, and working closely with Engineering Managers and Engineers on phased delivery plans.

The balance is exactly what he loves: less time on nitty-gritty details, more time on big-picture strategy and collaboration.

📅 What a day looks like

  • Partnership building → relationship management with Product Managers at priority partners

  • Strategic planning → embedding TechWolf into platforms in ways that enable powerful new use cases

  • Translation to execution → working with Engineering Managers and Engineers to map high-level goals into actionable steps

And of course, collaboration with the rest of the TechWolf Product org - from weekly huddles on wins and learnings to quarterly breakfasts at Yalo with fellow Product Managers and Product leadership.

🏆 Highlights along the way

  1. Workday DevCon hackathon win in Vegas 🎰
Mathieu was part of the TechWolf team that came up with the winning solution, the AI Transformation Agent, which helps companies manage AI transformation directly within Workday. That idea became a turning point in TechWolf’s product evolution - and opened up exciting new opportunities with our partners. Read more about the hackathon here.

  2. Solving real problems together 💡
Mathieu also finds a lot of energy in tackling complex challenges side by side with customers - digging deep into their goals, co-designing solutions, and then seeing those ideas come to life in practice.

⚡ Challenges & learnings

One of the most interesting challenges has been helping a non-technical audience fully grasp the value of a data-driven product.

The learning: focus less on abstract data power, more on concrete business use cases with urgency. Today, that’s exactly where Workforce Intelligence comes in - answering critical business questions on the future of work.

💡 Advice for future TechWolfers

TechWolf is a rocket ship. Things move fast, challenges are big - but so are the opportunities. As a Product Manager, you can make an outsized impact here. The Product org is now established, our Engineering team is world-class, and there’s so much untapped potential. If you want variety, ownership, and the opportunity to shape the future of how enterprises work - there’s no better time to join.

Using AI while interviewing at Techwolf

At TechWolf, we see generative AI as part of the modern toolkit — and we expect candidates to treat it that way too. We love it when people use AI to take their thinking to the next level, rather than to replace it.You are welcome to use tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or others during our interview process, especially in take-home assignments or technical exercises. We encourage you to bring your full toolkit — and that includes AI — as long as it reflects your own thinking, decisions and creativity. We don’t see AI as replacing your skills. Instead, we’re interested in how you use it: to brainstorm ideas, speed up iteration, validate your thinking, or unlock new ways of approaching a challenge. Great candidates show judgment in when to rely on AI, how to adapt its output, and where to go beyond it.

What we’re looking for:

Our interviews are designed to understand how you think, solve problems, and express ideas. Using AI in a way that amplifies those things — not masks them — is encouraged.

What to avoid:

We ask that you don’t submit AI-generated work without review, or present answers that you can’t fully explain. We’re not testing the model — we’re getting to know you, your skills, and your potential. If there are cases where we don’t want you to use AI for something, we’ll tell you ahead of the interview being booked. In short: use AI as you would on the job — as a smart assistant, not a stand-in.

Example: Programming with AI

In a coding challenge, you’re welcome to use generative AI to support your workflow — just like you might in a real development environment. For instance, you might use AI to quickly generate boilerplate code, look up syntax, or get a first-pass solution that you then adapt and debug collaboratively. What we’re interested in is your ability to reason through trade-offs, communicate clearly, think about complexity and iterate effectively — not whether you memorized the syntax perfectly. If using AI helps you stay in flow and focus on higher-level problem-solving, we consider that a strength. There could be some challenges where we won’t allow you to use AI - in that case we’ll tell you in advance, and will tell you why.
