From physical therapy to partner platforms: building at scale with TechWolf

Meet Arjen, Technical Team Lead of our Partner Application team at TechWolf. His journey didn’t start in tech, but it did start with people. Today, he’s building products used by tens of thousands of enterprise employees, embedded directly into the tools they use every day.

A career at the intersection of tech and people

Arjen started his career as a physical therapist. While he loved working with people, he always knew it wouldn’t be his long-term path.

“I was always interested in tech and building things people actually use. If I ever stopped being a physio, I wanted to do something more technical - but still people-focused.”

That combination became a constant theme. In his first technical role, he gradually evolved into a Team Lead position: still hands-on technically, but also coaching teammates and helping them grow.

“My physio background actually helped a lot - listening carefully, understanding the real underlying problem, and not just treating the symptoms.”

Tech and people turned out to be the perfect mix.

What he does at TechWolf today

Today, Arjen is the Technical Team Lead of the Partner Application team,  a highly customer-facing team focused on integrating TechWolf into the systems employees already use.

That means building applications that live inside platforms like Slack, Microsoft Teams and Workday, and making sure they scale smoothly to thousands (sometimes tens of thousands) of users.

His role sits at the intersection of technology, leadership and product thinking:

  • Helping the team build features customers actually use

  • Planning and prioritizing work

  • Thinking through architecture and scalability

  • Collaborating closely with Product Managers and other teams

  • Estimating effort, feasibility and production readiness

  • Hiring and supporting team growth

“It’s about building the right things - and building them in a way that works long-term.”

What the team is building

One of the core things the team works on is skill validation at scale.

Based on customer data,  like Jira tickets, resumes and evaluations, TechWolf infers employee skills with around 80% accuracy. Impressive, but customers often want an extra layer of certainty.

That’s where the Skill Assistant comes in.

Employees receive messages directly in the tools they already use, asking them to validate inferred skills and optionally rate their proficiency. The result? Skills data that is accurate, trusted and actionable - validated by the employees themselves.

“And because it all happens in tools employees are already familiar with, it fits seamlessly into day-to-day workflows.”

Big wins along the way

One of the biggest highlights so far? A quarter packed with major go-lives.

In just a few months, the team rolled out Partner Applications for six large enterprise customers, including one go-live reaching 80,000 employees at once. Shortly after, another rollout reached 75,000 users.

“It was intense. You really want everything to go smoothly at that scale.”

The applications handled the load, messages went out without major issues, and the systems scaled exactly as intended.

“In my career, this was one of the biggest go-lives I’ve ever been part of.”

Biggest learning: truly understanding the customer

One of the biggest challenges has been learning to think at enterprise scale.

“When your customers have 100,000+ employees, their challenges aren’t always what you expect.”

Understanding what truly matters to them - and how decisions ripple through an organization of that size - takes time and effort. It’s not something you naturally encounter in everyday life.

“But it’s incredibly important. Getting into the mindset of our customers has been one of the biggest learning curves - and also one of the most valuable.”

Advice for anyone considering TechWolf

“Just do it. Don’t doubt it.”

What stands out most for Arjen is the people. Every day, he works alongside colleagues who are genuinely good at what they do and deeply motivated to build something meaningful.

“There’s a shared mindset here. Everyone wants to create a great product that people actually enjoy using, and that truly brings value.”

That environment has a compounding effect. Being surrounded by smart, driven teammates pushes you to raise your own bar, learn faster, and grow into a better version of yourself naturally.

It is a high-paced environment, and that’s part of the deal. Things move quickly and expectations are high. But if you enjoy momentum, ownership, and the chance to move fast while doing work that has real impact, it’s an incredibly rewarding place to be.

Using AI while interviewing at Techwolf

At TechWolf, we see generative AI as part of the modern toolkit — and we expect candidates to treat it that way too. We love it when people use AI to take their thinking to the next level, rather than to replace it.You are welcome to use tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or others during our interview process, especially in take-home assignments or technical exercises. We encourage you to bring your full toolkit — and that includes AI — as long as it reflects your own thinking, decisions and creativity. We don’t see AI as replacing your skills. Instead, we’re interested in how you use it: to brainstorm ideas, speed up iteration, validate your thinking, or unlock new ways of approaching a challenge. Great candidates show judgment in when to rely on AI, how to adapt its output, and where to go beyond it.

What we’re looking for:

Our interviews are designed to understand how you think, solve problems, and express ideas. Using AI in a way that amplifies those things — not masks them — is encouraged.

What to avoid:

We ask that you don’t submit AI-generated work without review, or present answers that you can’t fully explain. We’re not testing the model — we’re getting to know you, your skills, and your potential. If there are cases where we don’t want you to use AI for something, we’ll tell you ahead of the interview being booked. In short: use AI as you would on the job — as a smart assistant, not a stand-in.

Example: Programming with AI

In a coding challenge, you’re welcome to use generative AI to support your workflow — just like you might in a real development environment. For instance, you might use AI to quickly generate boilerplate code, look up syntax, or get a first-pass solution that you then adapt and debug collaboratively. What we’re interested in is your ability to reason through trade-offs, communicate clearly, think about complexity and iterate effectively — not whether you memorized the syntax perfectly. If using AI helps you stay in flow and focus on higher-level problem-solving, we consider that a strength. There could be some challenges where we won’t allow you to use AI - in that case we’ll tell you in advance, and will tell you why.
