The vision for a skill-first world: Introducing the TechWolf skill intelligence index

Work and workforce transformation is accelerating, driven by the profound impact of AI. To navigate this change, leaders need visibility. At TechWolf, we provide two critical lenses to view this landscape, both built on the same foundational data: an analysis of over 2 billion job postings.
While our Work Intelligence Index provides a high-level assessment of AI's impact on roles and organizations, the work level, our new Skills Intelligence Index offers the essential complementary perspective. It reveals the same data through the lens of individual skills: the fundamental building blocks of work.
This shift in focus allows you to move beyond broad work-level AI assessments to understand: which specific capabilities are in demand, how they relate to tasks and jobs, and how AI impacts each one. This is the vision behind our Skill Ontology Browser: to empower a granular, skill-first approach to transformation.
The same foundation, a deeper view
Our intelligence is built on a single, comprehensive foundation: an analysis of over 2 billion job postings. From this dataset, we derive two powerful perspectives:
- The Work Intelligence Index: This index reveals the impact of AI and transformation on roles and organizations. It helps you understand which jobs are changing and how work is shifting at the organizational level.
- The Skills Intelligence Index: This offers a complementary, deeper view. It reveals which specific capabilities are in demand, how they relate to tasks and jobs, and how AI is impacting each individual skill.
While the Work Index helps HR and business leaders navigate organizational change, the Skills Index provides the granular, actionable insight needed to develop, reskill, and deploy your talent effectively.
A window into our complete ontology
The Skill Intelligence index you see today is a window into the complete TechWolf ontology of over 35,000 skills. The index showcases 2,500 of the most prevalent skills, but our ambition is far broader.
For every skill in our ontology, we provide critical intelligence:
- The tasks that require it.
- The jobs where it's needed.
- Its AI impact assessment.
This comprehensive mapping demonstrates how understanding work at both the role and skill level unlocks dramatically better workforce decisions.

TechWolf: The Foundational Data Layer
Our ultimate vision is to help build a world where every one of the world's 3.6 billion workers can flourish at work.
For this to happen, work must be understood through the skills of the employees and the tasks they actually perform. TechWolf plays its part by providing global enterprises with a foundational data layer. This layer accurately maps the tasks performed throughout their organization and the skills of their employees. It’s a powerful connection between skills, tasks, and jobs that provides deep, objective work intelligence.
This data enables HR and business unit leaders to make smarter decisions, and critically, it allows employees to succeed, learn, and grow based on factual skill data, not just historical titles.
Partner-first and open-source
Our commitment to a skill-first world is matched by our commitment to enterprise integration and open science:
1. Partner-First at All Times
We don't believe in adding another application layer. Instead, we partner with industry giants like Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, and ServiceNow. Our data is brought to life within the HR tech stack you already have, ensuring our skills intelligence is accessible where and when decisions are made.
2. Publishing over patenting: Our open-source AI know-how
Since 2018, we have been developing advanced inference models, often in collaboration with leading research centers at institutions like Cambridge and Stanford. These models turn unstructured work data into accurately mapped skills and tasks.
- Our open-source model for job matching, JobBERT, is already in the top 0.05% most downloaded AI models on Hugging Face.
- Our team has published multiple academic research papers on applying large language models specifically to the problems involved in understanding jobs, tasks, and skills across the global economy.
By open-sourcing our AI know-how, we actively contribute to the worldwide development of effective, ethical AI models, pushing the entire ecosystem forward.
